PATAGONIA WINTER 04
Andy Kirkpatrick and Ian Parnell's epic Patagonian adventure has come to an end. Thankfully both Ian and Andy are alive and well. Their original goal was to make the first winter ascent of Torre Egger however the unusually fierce and inclement Patagonian winter weather meant any attempt would be doomed to failure. Their back up plan was the 600m ice route 'Exocet' on Cerro Standhart. They were forced to turn back 100m from the summit of Cerro Standhart with avalanches hitting them from all directions. After resting back at the village of Chanltan for a few days they set off for another attempt hoping for a break in the weather, Ian picks up the story...

Message from Ian Parnell -

'Hi Alastair, we´re back in Chalten after our last and final effort. The good news is we are both OK in one piece and with a fair few more hours film and about 600 photos from my side. Bad news is we did no more climbing. In fact we spent almost all our time 3 nights 4 days under one particular boulder at the end of the glacier. The weather just got worse and worse and last night we ended up buried in snow. We were laughing as we were hanging in for so long with just 2 foot head room 'living in a hell hole' and we thought things could only get better but they actually got much worse. On the filming front we didn't get quite as much climbing as we'd envisaged but we at least captured a very genuine Patagonian experience!'

Can't wait to see the footage, should be a belter.

Andy and Ian are filming their adventure with equipment supplied by Posing Productions and film maker Alastair Lee will produce a film to be included on the forthcoming PSYCHE dvd.
