Patagonia Winter Update
We've had an update from top British Alpinist Ian Parnell on his and fellow alpinist Andy Kirkpatrick's progress in Patagonia and it sounds pretty wild out there! Here's the message from Ian -
'We´re back in Chalten after 3 days in the mountains. First day good weather, we walked in from Chalten to the base of El Mocho, about 10 miles and very hard going with huge sacks. The next day waked up to the start of the route on Torre Egger and dug a snow hole - it was very hot and the snow was soft and deep as the clouds gathering, that night the winds started and we got a bit wet in the melting snow hole. Opted to descend as weather was deteriorating the next day, amazing change on the glacier with up to a foot of snow stripped in one day, Lago Torre which we walked across 2 days previously was now breaking up with spectacular sounds. Made it back to Camp Bridwell and this morning back to Chalten.
Weather completely crapped out in the mountains for now, but we will get more supplies then head back tomorrow and wait for fingers crossed another weather window.
We are definitely beginning to ere towards Cerro Standhart not Torre Egger, weather just too scary and I guess were wimps.'
Log on again soon for more updates.
Andy and Ian are filming their adventure with equipment supplied by Posing Productions and film maker Alastair Lee will produce a film to be included on the forthcoming PSYCHE dvd.
